A Florida man has been denied a massive $100,000 jackpot after letting his friend press the spin button for ‘good luck’ purposes.
Jan Flato was happily gambling at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Fort Lauderdale when he invited then-friend Maria Navarro to press spin on one of his wagers. The $50 bet landed the huge $100,000 prize on jackpot slots to the delight and shock of Flato and Navarro.
Flato immediately dashed to the collection point to claim his winnings but his dreams were soon dashed.
“Upstairs, the eye in the sky says, ‘She touched the button, so technically, we have to pay her,’” he recalled. “I said, are you kidding me?”
Understandably Flato flipped out when Navarro refused to speak to him and walked away with the jackpot.
In a statement to FOX 13, a casino representative stated: “The person who pushes a slot machine button or pulls the arm is the person who wins the jackpot.”
The story turned ugly when Flato proceeded to send Navarro a series of threatening texts that night. In a televised interview with WSVN-TV, she showed two messages which read: “having me as an enemy…not good” and “well se [sic] who made the big mistake. It won’t be me.”
Navarro did say she offered him some of the winnings but receded the offer following the texts.
