plane abandons landing

By Kevin Moran

A Polish airline was forced to abandon landing in Salzburg over the weekend due to the strong crosswinds caused by Storm Herwart.

Footage of the attempted landing emerged on Monday showing how the crosswinds caused the right wing to drop dangerously close to the ground. Subsequently, the pilot had no option but to return the flight to Frankfurt leaving passengers disappointed.

A number of cities in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic reported states of emergency during the storm, which killed five people and left thousands without power.
